D&D Homebrewed Campaign

Overview/Summary

I created a fully home-brewed world, setting, and story for my first full campaign as a D&D Dungeon Master. Why? A potent combination of ambition and hubris, that’s why!

The campaign itself uses D&D 5e mechanics as a baseline, then introduces new systems and forms of magic to increase player engagement and immersion. For naming, I mostly used a combination of French and Irish words, as well as a smattering of both D&D and homebrewed gods, religions, and politics.

Examples of New Systems & Magics

  • Town construction and stewardship. Modeled after Crusader Kings 3, this system was introduced after the players had become the leadership council for a small village they saved. They now have options for building and developing their village, which occurs while they are off adventuring.
  • Shaping Magic. A physics-based magic system, giving the wielder the ability to mold and reshape objects through touch.
  • Contract Magic. This magic binds two willing parties to specific legal terms that absolutely cannot be broken. Wink wink.
